Update from Brian Baumgartner
Painters, drywall finishers, and glaziers around the State of Wisconsin continue to stay busy. Construction is going strong, and the future is looking good as well. I wish it were the same for our brothers and sisters of Local 770. Covid-19 has decimated the sign and display industry and we can only hope that after we get through the pandemic, Local 770 will get back to work. Our construction contractors say the work picture looks good but are concerned about procuring materials. Lead times on paint, caulking and aluminum are getting longer, and in some instances, suppliers cannot even determine delivery dates.
Over this past year and a half of the pandemic, meeting attendance has been low. Attending the monthly meetings is the best way to get information firsthand before it gets embellished and hits the rumor mill. Communication within membership is key to the success of our organization and will always be a work in progress. There are so many ways to communicate with different social media platforms and the fact that we all have a cell phone in our pocket, that we will continue and try to deliver information using all these different ways to keep everyone informed.
There have been some changes in leadership at DC7. Dan Martin is now the Director of Organizing for District Council 7. As these changes continue to develop, I look forward to working with Dan and the entire organizing team. Organizing and servicing go hand-in-hand, and I believe in the direction moving forward. I am excited about the changes that are being made and have already seen the benefits. There is already more continuity and transparency between the reps and the organizers, which puts us all on the same page. It is absolutely crucial that that these two departments work together as we focus on organizing the un-organized and promote the high standards that we hold ourselves accountable to.
“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration. The rest of us just get up and go to work."
