The 14th Annual International Union and Painters & Allied Trades District Council No. 7 Scholarship Essay Contest was judged by the President of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council, Pam Fendt. Many thanks go out to Pam Fendt for volunteering her time and efforts. The awards were presented at the Wednesday, August 11, 2021, District Council 7 Delegate Meeting.
Applications for the contest were accepted through June 30, 2021. All submitted essays were from a dependent child of an IUPAT DC 7 member in “good standing". All applicants showed proof of acceptance at a certified college, university, vocational, trade school, or other accredited institute of higher learning. This year's recipients received cash prizes ranging from $1,000.00 to $2,500.00.
The subject of the essay was "Protecting the Right to Organize Act, otherwise known as the PRO ACT, has been passed in the House. If this bill is signed into law by President Biden, what effect would it have on U.S. labor laws for both organized and unorganized workers and the contractors they work for?"
